1/22/2008 - Recycling is working well
While many thought that recycling is pase and that all those earlier efforts to reduce solid waste are thought to have failed, is not true. The fact is it was a success as reported by the Environmental Protection Agency of the US. since the turn of the century recycling has prevented about 64 million tons of material from ending up in landfills and incinerators and currently the recycling activities in the country have reached a significant rate of 32.5 percent of its waste and this jump in percentage has almost doubled during the past 15 years.

Moreover, while recycling has grown in general, there was an increased trend in recycling of specific materials: 52 percent of all paper products, 31 percent of all plastic soft drink bottles, 45 percent of all aluminum beer and soft drink cans, 63 percent of all steel packaging, and 67 percent of all major appliances are now constantly being recycled. This should remind us that recyling is and it is here to stay.

1/4/2008 - Shifting seasons: Bad for the Ecosystem

While it is already clear that the Global Warming phenomenon at the turn of the century is simply media hype proven by earlier records indicating earlier manifestation of signs of it has debunked the original notion that Global Warming or these odd environmental and climatic changes indicate the start of the Global Warming during the turn of the 20th Century.

Consider one case in the Great Britain; termed as the lost summer of 2004, the event was one of the worst in the English history. But it was not the first time that it did occur, miserable farming season in August that turned out to be exceedingly cool, wet and windy with strong gales, storm damaged and rotten all the harvest. This same event was accounted earlier in 1903 when the concept of the global phenomenon wasn’t even made up yet.

Aside from destruction of farm crops another case is the experience of early spring in the same English area, daffodils blooming in CornwallBritain. On the other hand the winter was mild but still has to wait for weeks before spring and temperatures are predicted to drop below freezing. The worst that experts warned about was the color brightening of the New Year with the unusual blooms that is likely to be not good for the plants since they would freeze even before they could pollinate a likely end for the plant breeding pattern. and the Cotswold’s and lilacs at the Royal Botanical Gardens. This early flowering was due to the months of unusual weather with a cold wet summer following the warmest April and this was a first time in

Any unusual change is not good for the normal living in the ecosystem.

12/18/2007 - What mountaineering is not?

It used to be that mountaineering is about getting into the heart of mother nature. The peak resembling the navel of the mother and reaching it on ones raw strength coupled with perseverance is enough price to pay, to be an accomplished mountaineer.

Mountaineering is plainly a communion with nature.
It is not about gadgets and gizmos, nor electronic devices. Although it may be useful at times.
It is not lavish food as reward for ones success on a trek. But a goodnight sleep is the kings gift.
It is not plush sleeping bags of comfort. An ordinary dry earth pad is heaven enough after an arduous climb.
It is not expensive tough tents that holds against the worst weather but its how you properly and strategically pitch an ordinary one against all oddities of the weather.
It is not bringing the flashy gears up the mountain and soiling them but its tattering the ordinary materials against the forces of nature, hoping ones determination is stronger than strands of nylon backpacks.
It is not bringing fire on fuel cannisters but it is making fire with what nature has.
It is not climbing for ones protection but for mother nature's.

Mountaineering is a challenge of the will against the harshest of nature and the reward is making a return and not the challenge of how strong trek shoes holds against the earth.

12/6/2007 - Ozone layer, on the way to recovery?
Roughly a decade ago the ozone layer depletion made it to the headlines with the shocking consequences of skin cancer and deaths with the unfiltered entry of ultraviolet radiation from the sun with the hole in the ozone layer. The worst news then is that the ozone depletion process is irreversible and damage getting  worse every year. But there is a good news after all. In a reasearch at the University of California Los Aangeles by plasma physicist Dr. Alfred Wong, his team was able to establish a way to stop the ozone depletion. All they had to do now is to set it all up, its a bit costly though but its workable, and that is what's important.

12/5/2007 - Global Warming: A necessary evil?

Since genocides are out dated, increase in population is a reality that this planet needs to deal with every day. Since man has continually been ferocious in devouring the planet's resources, renewable or non-renewable, more compassionate members of this one and only home has found hope in gaining support for mother earth by the shock attacks generated by Global Warming.

On a microlevel, humans feel the changes in the weather but on a macro level, there lies no threat at all. The threat is highly politically motivated. So you wonder why some countries didn't sign the Kyoto Protocol and put their money where their mouths are. Are the weather instruments orbiting the planet for more than half a century precise? Is it true that global warming has actually happened 300 years ago but no one cared? Water vapor accounts for more than 90 percent of the ozone layer's depletion. Can we actually stop water vapor? And the thing is, the ozone layer is a natural phenomenon that perpetually thins and thickens according to natural forces.

Man can only destroy himself. The destruction that man inflicts on the planet earth is nil to what the earth can do to human beings. The earth is filled with natural forces that man could only second guess given all the high technologies that support him. If the idea of Global Warming could rally people, nations and communities to stop, look and listen to the quality of life humans have on earth, then efforts like this hoax becomes a necessary evil.
